THE MAN
King-N-Rook founder Richard “RJ” Joseph was born and raised in the heart of Brooklyn called Bedford Stuyvesent. Being the yourngest of 5 and son of parents who migrated from Trinidad & Tobago in the late 60’s,
Richard’s mother worked in housekeeping and his father was a painter at hospitals in Brooklyn to pay the bills but like most, had to utilize other talents to provide additional opportunies for their 5 offspring.
Richards mother would sew her own dresses and curtains while his father worked as a carpenter on weekends. and both parents we deatil oriented. While he never actually did either skill growing up, Richard was present and an observant assitant to each parent learning the value of making something from nothing with your own hands. Let us not forget to mention that both of Richards parents were sharp dressers and this is the foundation of Richard’s appreciation for fashion and style
Fast forward to 2014 and Richard son Andrew and youngest of three, graduating from elementarty school, wants to immulate his father by wearing a bow tie to his graduation. Unsuccessful in locating a qulity bow tie for young Andrew, they settled on a pre-tied bow tie from a local deparment store.
Shortly thereafter, still unsatified will the bow tie purchase, a young Andrew and father Richard decided that they would start of fashion line while during a game of chess, hence the name King-N-Rook

OUR HAND STITCHED LEATHER GOODS
Make no mistake about it, our leather goods are stitched by hand utilizing a traditional leather saddle stitch. While we know that a sewing machine is faster, we prefer the saddle stich because it will stand the test of time.
Our hand picked leather is full grain vegatan and in most cases, custom dyed by us. We prefer to use waterstain dyes not only allow us to create custom colors but it’s eco-friendly.
